Leoncarlo
Armed with a violin and a loop station, Leoncarlo Canlas (who performs under his first name as Leoncarlo) creates lush, symphonic soundscapes. He plays the violin with the bow, beats on it like a drum and strums it like a guitar, creating a variety of sounds. He has even sung into the openings on the instrument, his voice bouncing around inside. Classically trained, he attended the University of NorthTexas for violin performance and went on to collaborate with a number of diverse international acts, including Polyphonic Spree, Alejandro Escovedo, Seryn, and Botany. Leoncarlo's career has sent him all over the world, including festivals such as SXSW and Telluride, and shows with Dave Brubeck, George Clinton, and many others. He offers session work, as well as private lessons. He teaches violin, viola, and piano at Bonduris Music School in Denton. Leoncarlo released his debut album Still Forms in 2016, and is currently crafting his second album which is slated for a 2020 release.
