Updates
- Listen to a recording of the Aug. 23 Alabama SupportMusic State Coalition call, here.
- Donna Russell from the Alabama Alliance for Arts Education hosts a statewide advocacy day at the capitol in the spring and spearheads ESSA implementation in the state.
- Andy Meadows from Alabama Music Educator's Association has data on access and participation rates. Stay tuned for an action alert.
- Currently planning a town hall / meet-n-greet at a retail store for parents, teachers, and school administrators.
- An informative email was sent to local schools in the City of Auburn, Opelika, and surrounding towns, directed to music educators, principals, and the Board of Education. We gave a description of what was accomplished in D.C., ESSA, and possible action steps we would like to see our community make to further music education under the new bill.
- In celebration of Make Music Day, we attempted to break a world record in downtown Auburn, Alabama. With well over 1,000 people in attendance consisting of Auburn's mayor, City of Auburn employees, city and university music educators, musicians of all ages, music lovers, and parents, we used this as a platform to inform attendees of ESSA. We informed the crowd of possible 'next steps' that could be taken to continue to spread the message of the importance of music education across the state.
- Have talked with local county schools that do not have music educators and offered to come teach a complimentary intro to music class for their students.
