Billy Cox
Billy Cox played bass alongside Jimi Hendrix as a member of Band of Gypsies. Besides his work with Hendrix, Billy recorded alongside the likes of Sam Cooke, Charlie Daniels, Little Richard, and Etta James. Starting out by learning the piano, then playing the violin, trumpet, and finally finding the bass after hearing Lloyd Price’s “Mr. Personality”, Billy found his calling. Billy first met Jimi during his time in the Army and quickly made some deals to switch positions in the Army in order to be able to rehearse with Jimi until they both transitioned out of the Army. As an inductee to the Musician’s Hall of Fame, Billy continues to make music.
