Chester's Barn Vignette
Long time music store owner and rights advocate, Fat Dog, was looking for a way to pay tribute to his all-time favorite blues musician, Howlin’ Wolf. Howlin’ Wolf was born Chester Arthur Burnett on June 10, 1910 in Clay County, Mississippi. He went on to record a series of songs that helped document the early blues sound of the south and is often cited as a musical mentor to blues and rock artists alike. He passed away at the age of 65 on January 10, 1976. As a musician himself, Fat Dog assembled the same make and models of the instruments and recording equipment that Howlin’ Wolf used during his career. Fat Dog then dedicated a small shack on a hill top on his property in Napa Valley, California and named it “Chester’s Barn.” The space is used often by those who want to create a feeling of those early roots blues recordings, which Fat Dog happily feels adds to Howlin’ Wolf’s legacy.
