Dr. Mable John

Dr. Mable John served many people in a variety of ways during her long life. She was a singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, author, educator, leader, minister, mentor, music advocate and a friend. Her career as a backup singer and soloist broke ground at Stax Records and later with Ray Charles. She was the first female solist signed by Motown Records. Graceful and always respected, Dr. John was a teacher to her students and her audiences. She was given many awards for her service to music and music education including the AMC Support Music Award in 2004.
