Emily Achieng Akuno

Emily Achieng Akuno became the first music professor from Kenya to be elected president of the International Music Council (IMC). This took place in 2018. The position allowed her the opportunity to bring attention to the challenges African nations face regarding music programs. Emily earned her Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University in Kenya, a Master of Music from Northwestern State University in Louisiana, and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Kingston University in England. She is also an active member of the International Society for Music Education (ISME). Her NAMM Oral History interview took place upon her first visit to the NAMM Show in January 2019.
