Eugene Wright

Eugene Wright can be heard playing bass on the classic jazz song “Take Five” as a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet, but what most people may not know is that Eugene fronted his own band for years before joining Dave. Eugene was the leader of the Dukes of Swing and enjoyed a remarkable career in music, which spanned over 60 years both in the studio and on the road. Among the other musicians he performed with were Count Basie, Buddy DeFranco, Billie Holiday and Cal Tjader when he worked alongside drummer Al Torre. He was 97 when he passed away in December 2020.
