Joey Welz

Joey Welz was a member of Bill Haley’s Comets as well as Link Wray’s Wray Men. He played piano in the early days of Rockabilly for Bat Records with his own group as well as with The Jay Rockers. While in the Army in Germany in the early 1960s, Joey became a recording engineer for the Armed Forces Radio (AFN) which lead him to meeting the Silver Beatles. He joined the Comets during the same period and later recorded with the band. His final gig with Bill Haley was at the Cellar Door in Washington D.C. in 1971. Among the many songs Joey has penned over his long career, he may be best known for “Hey Little Moonbeam” with Steve Lawrence in 1964.
