Larry Redhouse

Larry Redhouse grew up in a house with six siblings who were all, like their mother, very musical. The family formed a musical act, the Redhouse Band, in the late 60s. The band played a large repertoire of styles including funk and jazz fusion, and cites influences such as Santana, Malo, and Tower of Power. The Redhouse band played in clubs and occasionally performed at national venues like the NMAI, National Museum of the Native American-Smithsonian Washington DC and the Alaskan Native Heritage Center. Larry wrote most of the band's original compositions, which he continued to do when he formed the LRQ (Larry Redhouse Quartet) in the 80's and currently for the jazz trio he is a member of. The LRQ had the honor of opening for Chick Corea's Electric Band and Terrance Blanchard's Quintet when they did concerts in Tucson. Larry plays a number of instruments including trumpet, flute, drums and piano, the latter of which he focused on in high school, along with composing his own material. He has also fully embraced his Native American heritage and often performs ceremonies in which he plays a number of wooden flutes he has acquired over the years.
