Margaret Whiting

This audio only interview was conducted for a radio program by Dan Del Fiorentino and donated to the NAMM Oral History program: Margaret Whiting was a popular singer who had a number of hit recordings in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Her father was the noted songwriter Richard Whiting who penned such classics as "Hooray For Hollywood", "On the Good Ship Lollipop", and "Ain't We Got Fun." Margaret began singing with the big bands and recorded with Freddie Slack and Paul Weston in the early 1940s. In 1943, she recorded perhaps her biggest hit, with trumpeter Billy Butterfield, entitled "Moonlight In Vermont." She also performed extensively on radio and television including her own show with her sister Barbara called Those Whiting Girls in the late 1950s.
