Ray Ellis

This audio only interview was conducted for a radio program by Dan Del Fiorentino and donated to the NAMM Oral History program: Ray Ellis had a remarkable career as a songwriter and arranger. His career spanned jazz and popular music, as well as cartoons and game shows. Ray arranged for Billie Holiday's final record as well as the hits "Broken Hearted Melody" recorded by Sarah Vaughn and Johnny Mathis' hit "A Certain Smile." Ray wrote the themes for several television shows including NBC news programs and the game show "Sale of the Century." Beginning in 1968, Ray spent nearly 15 years writing for cartoons created by Filmation Studios including The Archies Show and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
