Red Dog Weber
Red Dog Weber saw a pogo-cello during the NAMM show in the early 1950s and thought if there was a percussive version of this instrument he could play it with his band and have a lot of fun. He started designing the instrument that he called the "boom schtick" in 1958 and has made thousands of them over the years all by himself and all by hand. He made his last boom schtick in 2011 when poor health forced him to retire as a builder. The instrument was sold in high priced department stores to women looking for a crazy gift for their husbands, however, several have been used in recordings and on stage. By the way, if Red Dog looks familiar, you may have seen him as an actor in such movies as Scrooged in which he played Santa.
