Russ Hamm

Russ Hamm has a passion for electrical engineering and began his career working in recording studios around the Boston area. In 1968 he left Boston for New York and worked for Bob Fine at Fine Recording Studios. Russ was a part of many technological advances in sound recording, such as the switch from analog to digital, with Russ working alongside AT&T and Bell Labs to develop one of the first digital consoles. Russ’ paper, “Tubes Versus Transistors: Is There an Audible Difference” was presented at the AES Show in 1973. He also worked with Walter Sear (who later formed Sear Sound) to develop a guitar synthesizer. His current project, Sonic Presence, created the SP15 – a wearable microphone that records high quality special audio to mobile devices and computers.
