Tony Bolland
Tony Bolland was just 16 when he got a job at Plug In, a rock shop in Liverpool. The store was part of Hessy’s Music, the famous store which sold instruments to the Beatles in the early part of their career. Tony loved music retail and in fact later managed the main Hessy’s Music store, which was back in 1977. All throughout his retail career, Tony played in several area bands. He even ran his own store, River City Sound, beginning in 1993. Fascinated by the history of Liverpool and its music, Tony began compiling his many notebooks in which he listed life in the music stores, including famous customers and funny stories. In 2006 he published the first of two books about Plug In, which was followed by several other interesting publications including a book dedicated to Hessy’s Music!
