NAMM Members, accompanied by musical artists and arts education partners continue to work in support of music education as they return from an event-filled three-day advocacy effort on Capitol Hill. Thirty NAMM Members and industry representatives participated in 80 meetings with congressional leaders to stress the importance of comprehensive music education in our nation’s schools

In a Capitol Hill ceremony attended by musical artists and other advocates for music education, Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va), Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va) and Randall Reid-Smith, Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, were each honored by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), VH1 Save The Music Foundation and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and presented with the SupportMusic Award from NAMM f

– Heralding the commitment to music education, the NAMM Foundation designated 307 school districts across the country as Best Communities for Music Education in a record-breaking year for participation.

On Wednesday, March 20th, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) will present Senator Rockefeller, Senator Manchin and Randall Reid-Smith, Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, for their support of music education and leadership during the statewide rebuild of West Virginia music education programs.

Entries are now being accepted for NAMM’s 2013 Top 100 Dealer Awards, which spotlight the music instrument and products industry’s best, brightest and most proactive retailers. The awards held during Summer NAMM, July 11-13, 2013 in Nashville, recognize retailers in seven “Best of” categories, with the 2013 “Dealer of the Year” chosen from among the Top 100. This is the opportunity to give recognition, celebrate excellence, and honor the year’s most successful strategies.

On March 19 and 20, artists Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bernie Williams, former NY Yankee and Latin Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist join leaders of the music instrument and products industry in Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress on the importance of comprehensive music education in our nation’s schools.

This past weekend, at the close of its most successful NAMM Show yet, the National Association of Music Merchants’ NAMM Foundation unveiled its new public service announcement campaign, “Just Play.” The spot will air this spring in a multi-media, national campaign that will include ads for television, radio, billboards, bus shelters, airports, malls and anywhere one can hear, think about or play music.

At its Annual Meeting of Members, held January 27 during the 2013 NAMM Show, the NAMM Board of Directors bid farewell to departing members and welcomed eight new faces to a three-year term. The NAMM Board of Directors provides guidance and leadership to the National Association of Music Merchants and the music instrument and product industry.

When the business is music, it’s a fine line between good times and work. Produced by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), the NAMM Show provided the most effective platform across four jam-packed days filled with new product debuts, networking, and educational opportunities set to the soundtrack of live music and conversation among friends old and new.
