Joseph Gomes
Joseph Gomes is a partner with his brother in the music company their father purchased in 1953. BX Furtado & Son opened in 1865 in India, having a small part of their store dedicated to musical instruments. That focus expanded over time, and by 1953 the store was well known for service and products. Joseph’s father admitted he knew little about the music business, and in fact won the store in an auction that included a general merchandise store that he was primarily interested in owning. The music store was part of the deal and he soon found he had an interest in learning more about the music industry. His sons, including Joseph, joined the company in the 1980s at which point it expanded again both as a wholesaler and retailer.
