Terence Thompson
Terence James Thompson played the clarinet just as his father and grandfather did. Terence played clarinet in the British Army after World War II and in 1948 attended the Birmingham School of Music. He began to teach in a Birmingham area high school in 1950. He quickly discovered that he was unable to teach his students without writing out song structures, which were not available in the method books at the time. So, he set out to write a series of books and later a large number of classical pieces, which featured the clarinet. His works have been published by a number of companies over the years including Studio Music Company in London. Terence has played on recordings for most of his career. Many of these recordings have recently been released on CD. His NAMM Oral History interview was completed on July 2, 2006 at the British Music Fair in Birmingham, England.
