Federal Government to States and Schools: provide equal access to resources for all students

Last week, Catherine E. Lhamon, Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education, issued new guidance for states and districts to focus on education equality. Lhamon notes that while “participation in high-quality arts programs, including music and visual arts, is valuable to all students,” accessibility remains a top concern. Lhamon reminds states and school districts to review their policies for any disparities and cautions against discriminatory practices that may hinder equal access to resources and educational opportunities.
