Bob Magnusson
Bob Magnusson played bass for Buddy Rich, which is when he learned firsthand about the role the bass has within a band and how to work with the drummer to create the best section possible. These lessons and many others he picked up during his long career in music were discussed in Bob’s 2014 NAMM Oral History interview. Stressing music advocacy and working with other musicians to improve your skills, Bob gladly shares the lessons and important experiences of his career in the hopes of assisting other musicians. Among those events he draws on were the several wonderful years with Sarah Vaughan which were highlights for him personally. “She was a marvelous singer. There were nights when I fell in love with her, just hearing her voice.”
