Guatemala Lists for Rosewood Species on CITES Appendix III

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced that Guatemala has listed four of its rosewood species (Dalbergia calycina, Dalabergia subilquitzensis, Dalbergia glomareta and Dalbergia Tucurensis) on CITES Appendix III, effective February 5, 2015.  The listing means that companies wishing to import these species into the U.S. or re-export them must obtain appropriate CITES documentation.  Only logs, sawn wood, veneer and plywood are included in the listing, so no permits would be needed to import or export finished instruments containing these species.  The Fish and Wildlife Service announcement appears at http://www.fws.gov/international/pdf/letter-appendix-III-timber-listings-february-2015.pdf
