FYI: Third-Party Attendee Lists

As NAMM Shows return to in-person events, you may be approached by third-party vendors claiming to have legitimate attendee lists.

Please know NAMM does not sell attendee data. (See how we safeguard and utilize data in our Privacy Notice.) These services use bots and other methods to research websites to obtain contact information, and then illegally use NAMM marks to try to sell collected information under false pretenses.

We work closely with our legal team to try to prevent this type of activity, so if you are approached by a list vendor please forward the soliciting email to lists@namm.org. We will utilize every legal means available to try to prevent the use of NAMM marks and other protected information, to support our members worldwide.

Still tempted to acquire a list? Beyond the potential of investing in incomplete and inaccurate data, this practice may harm your email efforts as well. Here are a variety of reasons why you shouldn’t buy email lists:

  • You'll violate the rules of consent under GDPR.
  • Reputable email marketing services don't let you send emails to lists you've bought.
  • Good email address lists aren't for sale.
  • People on a purchased or rented list don't actually know you.
  • You'll harm your email deliverability and IP reputation.
  • You can come across as annoying.
  • Your email service provider can penalize you.

There are many resources available to learn more about this subject, here are a few of our favorites.
