D’Addario Donates Drumsticks to Make Music Day
Make Music Day (MMD) is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.
To celebrate the day and to support emerging percussionists, D’Addario is donating 500 pairs of the company’s ProMark Painted Rebound 5A drumsticks. The drumsticks, which feature an acorn tip shape and a long taper, produce a rear-weighted feel, ideal for agility. The drumsticks are being used in 24 bucket drumming events in parks and plazas around the United States. On June 21st, participants, regardless of age or ability, will be handed a pair of ProMark drumsticks and invited to make music together.
We spoke with Natalie Morrison, D’Addario Public Relations Strategist and Kyle THomas, D'Addario Education Manager, about the donation and importance of MMD.
What inspired D’Addario to participate in MMD?
With the return of live music, after a year and a half of virtual shows, D’Addario is excited to encourage more people to get out, pick up a pair of drumsticks, and experience the power that live music has by playing in person, together.
What does MMD mean to D’Addario?
Making music is core to our ethos at D’Addario, so it’s fitting to partner with the NAMM Foundation to present Make Music Day, a worldwide celebration of creating art that inspires the senses and brings people together to spread the joy of music.
What advice does D’Addario have for other NAMM Members looking to participate in Make Music Day?
The importance of connecting through music has never been more relevant to our society. As members of the musical community, we believe it’s our responsibility to find ways to bring music to people and would highly encourage other NAMM members to get involved and continue to grow our community.
