G4V and Gibson Recognize America’s Heroes

Established in 2007, G4V is a 501(c)3 non-profit “dedicated to providing relief to struggling veterans through the healing power of music and community.” Since its beginning, the organization has offered free guitar instruction programming for veterans struggling with physical injuries, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other emotional distress. Along with free structured instruction, this unique therapeutic program provides participants with a new acoustic guitar and accessory kit. G4V programming is administered by volunteers, primarily through the Department of Veterans Affairs facilities and community-based medical centers across the United States.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the newest addition to the G4V arsenal of services is the newly created cyber chapter. Born out of concern of rising threats to mental wellness that veterans faced because of isolation and social distancing guidelines, G4V launched the cyber chapter to reach veterans across the country, including those who may not have access to an existing chapter. The digital version of the program includes free, 11-week private lessons, and upon completion, students are presented with a free acoustic guitar and accessories, so they may continue to play.

G4V, in partnership with Gibson, is gearing up to continue its mission for our nation's heroes this Veteran’s Day with the 11th installment of the R2R concert. “Learning guitar presents healing against the everyday challenges of PTSD and allows for a creative ‘escape’ outlet for all players,” adds Dendy Jarrett, Executive Director of Gibson Gives. “Guitars For Vets also encourages our veterans to gather and share their stories, providing a source of community and hope.”

R2R host and guitarist Jared James Nichols will be welcoming G4V graduates to perform their original songs as part of the live stream. G4V Founder Patrick Nettesheim said, “At its core, Guitars For Vets is about building community and inspiring joy. The guitar itself is the catalyst for positive human interaction. It allows for the transference of emotions from one person to many others, fostering an environment of understanding and release. The G4V Rock to Remember live stream creates the opportunity for us to take on a serious subject in PTSD and disarm it with gratitude, empathy, and the good vibrations of rock ‘n’ roll. We are very blessed to have Gibson by our side in this mission.”
