edgware by BBICO Fights COVID-19 and Protects Our Planet in the Process
The British Band Instrument Company (BBICO) launched its new ‘edgware by BBICO’ line of products at The 2020 NAMM Show. This diverse line of environmentally sound and safe products includes a sanitizer spray that has been proven to kill 99.9999% of germs in 12 seconds, including the COVID-19 virus.
Conceptualized in the summer of 2019, edgware by BBICO is an eco-friendly line of products including oils, greases, sprays, soaks, brushes, and cloths that are critical tools in the care for musical instruments. As a safe alternative to traditional petroleum, toxin-based, or synthetic oils, the line earned its name in honor of the town of Edgware, nestled between the North London boroughs of Harrow and Barnet. Edgware has a steep musical history, becoming the home of Boosey & Hawkes in the 1930s, then becoming the name of a brand of woodwind and brass instruments and the home of BBICO.
Alun Hughes, edgware by BBICO founder, says, “During my career in the music products industry, I’ve never been so aware of the need for a range of non-synthetic-based lubricants and accessories. We have done considerable research to develop a range suitable for future generations of environmentally conscious young musicians. We are passionate about reducing the negative impact on the world so that the joy of music-making is additionally enhanced. Our sanitizer spray is made from hypochlorous, which is proven to kill enveloped viruses (influenza, HIV, COVID-19) in 12 seconds (tested to BS EN 14476:2013), it is the only stable hypochlorus in the music products industry, providing a twelve month shelf life.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Hughes and the team at edgwareby BBICO have fielded numerous requests from educational institutions looking for a safe, environmentally conscious way to sanitize their students’ instruments.
