Guitar and bass string manufacturer, Ernie Ball, pivots operations to produce and distribute free face masks for the community of Coachella Valley, California in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The solution focused approach which is the basis of Ernie Ball’s company culture is also at the heart of their mask production efforts. Believing firmly in the need to support its local community, the team at Ernie Ball recognized the impact COVID-19 had on the Coachella Valley, not only with the resulting lack of much needed masks, but the economic implications that severely impacted the areas tourism and music festival industries.

Ernie Ball Masks

The masks are constructed of two-ply 100% cotton knit jersey material and over 9,000 of these masks have been distributed free of charge to the community which include a long list of local local institutions such as Martha’s Village, which assists local homeless populations, local essential farmworkers whose work cannot accommodate social distancing guidelines, as well as police, fire, and health organizations in the surrounding area. Sharon Chilpa-Hahn, human resources for Ernie Ball reports that the company has enough material to produce a total of 40,000 masks, with the possibility to acquire more fabric to make additional masks should the area remain in need. Chilpa-Hahn shared the sentiment from Ernie Ball’s team on the project, she said, “Ernie Ball encourages all NAMM Members to think outside the box in determining ways that they can assist health organizations and the general public fight this pandemic. Ask yourself, ‘What company resources can you utilize to help your local communities?’ Any assistance from NAMM Members for their communities would serve as a great parallel to Ernie Ball’s efforts in the Coachella Valley.”
