TEC Tracks: Where Audio Technology Meets the Music Industry

David Schwartz

From studio technology advancements to live sound issues, artist development, and business topics to simply making a good living in music, NAMM’s TEC Tracks is an information power resource for music professionals.

Whether you’d like a quick introduction to a topic or a quick update on a particular trend, TEC Tracks brings you specialized knowledge from industry leaders and skilled professionals that you won’t find anywhere else. And it’s all available for free with your 2023 NAMM Show badge.

The 2023 edition of TEC Tracks will offer more than 50 sessions of expert insights across a wide path - from pro audio to music technology to critical and dynamic aspects of the music industry.

A popular TEC Tracks topic this year will undoubtedly be 3-D mixing. Artist-friendly presentations will address many aspects of immersive audio: the technology of three-dimensional sound positioning, its artistic applications, equipping a studio for it, and understanding playback environments. Well-respected producers and engineers, including Eddie Kramer, Brian Hardgroove, and Ken Caillat, will discuss and demo various approaches to this evolving format.

Victor Wooten and the Wooten Brothers will present a special session at TEC Tracks and tell stories about writing, recording, touring, and many other aspects of being a full-time musician.

As much as TEC Tracks caters to the music engineers and producers of the industry, more and more of these topics have merged and overlapped with artistic, business, and career concerns.

The desire to make a good living and love what they do is a common denominator among NAMM Show attendees. Many artists have traditionally been shy about digging into the money part of their careers. Still, there’s never been a more vital time for artists to understand how to monetize their creativity, so they can strike equitable business deals that fairly value their work. This aspect of career development will be making its presence felt in a big way this year, as TEC Tracks presents several panels and masterclasses on business and career topics, including:

For house of worship audio professionals and musicians, a full day of panels will address this evolving musical environment, with topics such as:

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from your 2023 TEC Tracks experience will be the people you’ll meet, be it industry luminaries or fellow professionals sitting next to you who may hold a piece of the puzzle you’ve been working on. As show veterans know, The NAMM Show audience is like no other, and this once-a-year opportunity can be a life changer. We hope to see you all in April!
