“May is MIDI Month” Campaign Sets Goal to Raise $24,000 for Children’s Charity

The MIDI™ Association is marking “May is MIDI Month,” with a fundraising initiative to raise $24,000 for the Children’s Music Fund™ (CMF). This year marks the second consecutive year that the May is MIDI Month campaign will aim to assist this non-profit.

The association was introduced to the CMF while on a call with GRAMMY® Award winner Michael Boddicker. In the late spring of 2020, Boddicker mentioned his long-time affiliation with the CMF, and a partnership was born, resulting in the donation of $18,000 in 2020's May is MIDI month.

The CMF was founded in 2002 by UCLA professor of allergy and pediatric pain specialist Dr. Raffi Tachdjian. Dr. Tachdjian became inspired by a patient during his residency at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital. Over the last decade, the non-profit has become a “leading organization to deliver research on the positive effects of music therapy in sick children and young adults.” CMF empowers a network of carefully screened, board-certified music therapists and follows the standards established by the American Music Therapy Association in its music therapy practices.

The COVID-19 pandemic halted the in-person sessions between therapists and patients, replacing them with remote telehealth sessions. The transition was possible due in part to the funds from the 2020 May is MIDI Month campaign. After the initial fundraising project, the MIDI Association found that they could further assist the mission of the CMF by bringing in MIDI for remote therapy.
