Live Music Returns to NAMM’s Museum of Making Music

Elizabeth Dale

Live music is returning to NAMM’s Museum of Making Music (MoMM) in September. Guitarist Jackie Venson will take the stage on September 9, marking the first notes to grace the museum stage in over a year.

Venson, joined by drummer Rodney Hyder, is a natural fit for music's return to the MoMM as her skills are present in the newly renovated museum galleries. Each of the four galleries in the museum feature digital rails or high-tech versions of traditional text labels that provide visitors with an interactive experience. Each digital rail contains a “musical moment” that showcases how artists use the instruments detailed in the exhibit. For example, Venson plays the electric guitar in a “musical moment” in Gallery One: Making the Instruments as part of the "Getting Louder" display to demonstrate how manufacturers electrified instruments in response to the desire to play louder.

As a multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, Venson is best known for her beautifully complex music and blazing guitar skills. The Berklee College of Music alum was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and has traveled the world playing in front of audiences as a headliner and supporting major acts including Gary Clark Jr., Aloe Blacc, and Citizen Cope. Venson’s credits consist of three studio albums, The Light in Me, Joy, and her 2020 release Vintage, and three live albums, Live at Strange Brew, Live in Texas, and Jackie Venson Live at Austin City Limits. If these achievements were not enough, Venson also has a musical alter ego, DJ jackie the robot, who has released two albums, jackie the robot vol 1 and jackie the robot vol 2.
