NAMM Forms Import Export Task Force
Summer NAMM meeting planned to continue to address wood import and export concerns and requirements under the Lacey Act and other regulations.
Over two years have passed since implementation of the 2008 amendments to the Lacey Act and one year has passed since enforcement of Lacey Act Import Declaration requirements on all shipments of imported pianos and other stringed instruments (e.g., guitars and violins). NAMM Members affected by Lacey Act regulations and declaration requirements – along with other regulations that impact the shipment of plant or animal products – are encouraged to join the Import Export Task Force. A first meeting will take place in Nashville, TN during the 2011 Summer NAMM on Thursday evening, July 21. 5:30 p.m., room 102, Nashville Convention Center.
The formation of the task force supports NAMM’s continuing effort to assist NAMM Members in their efforts to comply with regulatory requirements and will provide ongoing education as necessary. The task force will also seek to document, without reference to identified companies or products, challenges regarding specific regulations and declaration requirements so as to bring them to the attention of the federal and international officials. This information will support NAMM’s ongoing advocacy efforts to make needed changes in regulations.
To join the taskforce and receive updates on online meetings, regulatory updates and NAMM Show education events, please email importexport@namm.org.
