Can-Do Musos is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which was established in March 2013 in New York to provide support and guidance to musicians living with a disability from all over the world. It was formed in March 2013 at a meeting at Dom Famularo’s studio on Long Island, New York by Dom, Andrew Hewitt from Australia, David Segal from Connecticut and Mike Mignogna from Tennessee. At the meeting, the frustrations of being a disabled musician were discussed and how we wanted to change things and help people get a chance at fulfilling their dreams. In 2016, 10 Can-Do Musos from across the globe were involved in the British Paralympics Team’s “Yes I Can” campaign which was put together by the BBC in the UK. NAMM 2017, Can-Do Musos opened the Center Stage with a 45 minute performance of 9 disabled musicians from Australia, Chile, Venezuela and the USA. This was well received by an enthusiastic audience. Key players: Andrew Hewitt (Australia) – Andrew is a drummer born with Cerebral Palsy from Sydney, Australia. He is a wheelchair user, but also an international touring drummer. In 2017, as well as appearing at The NAMM Show, he went to Berlin, Germany for Arts Access Australia in October where he did some workshops and performances. In 2015, Andrew was named one of the Eight most remarkable and inspirational musicians in the world by UK’s Raw Ramp magazine. David Segal (USA) – David is a drummer from New York born with Arthrogryposis. He has played at Carnegie Hall. In 2017, as well as performing at NAMM, he travelled to Mersin, Turkey with guitarist, Mark Goffeney to perform at the first International Accessible Arts Festival in October. They have been invited back to perform in 2018. Joe Hardy (USA) – Joe is a drummer from Los Angeles, born with no legs. He uses a customized wheelchair drum kit. He was part of the 2017 NAMM performance and plays in LA based band Unit 287. Joe works as Artist Relations for Axis Percussion. Mark Goffeney (USA) – Mark is a guitarist from San Diego, born with no arms. He recently played sell out shows at Madison Square Gardens with Latin American band Mana. He was part of the 2017 NAMM performance and performed in Turkey with David Segal. In 2015, Mark was named as one of the Eight most remarkable and inspirational musicians in the world by UK’s Raw Ramp magazine. Brandon Mendenhall (USA) – Brandon is a guitarist from Los Angeles, born with Cerebral Palsy. He is the rhythm guitarist in LA based metal band The Mendenhall Experiment. Nate Stockton (USA) – Nate is a bass player from Los Angeles, who was born deaf. He plays in the band The Mendenhall Experiment. Kelly Kendall (USA) - Kelly is a disabled veteran from San Diego and has been a keyboard player for over 28 years, and he is a composer/songwriter. He is pursuing his passion for music. Homero Chavez (USA) - Homero is a renown drummer & percussionist from Los Angeles. He has been a presenter at over 500 clinics, workshops, and festivals around the globe including the Moscow Music Expo '08. During our performance, some Can-Do Musos guests will be invited up to play a song, depending on who is available to attend NAMM. The performance will be MC’d by drumming’s global ambassador, Dom Famularo. Can-Do Musos is forever growing. We currently support 312 musicians from 34 countries. On top of this performance, we will be also hosting our usual discussion panel in TEC Tracks at 3pm on Sunday 27th January at the Anaheim Hilton.
