Rick Peate
Rick Peate recalled the story of how his family’s multi-generational music business began and developed. During his NAMM Oral History interview, Rick talked about his innovative grandfather, George Peate, who moved to Montreal from Utica, New York as a teenager and opened a music store in 1899. George made musical instruments, wrote method books, and was a band director. Peate Music developed over the years and Rick’s father took over from his grandfather just as Rick would take over from his father. In 1968, the company officially became a distributor, which Rick has taken into the Internet age.
