Steve West

Steve West took over his father’s store and went on to become an industry leader who served as president of the NAMM Board. Steve recalls the days as a boy running around West Music as his father, Pearl, sold instruments and gave lessons. With the expansion of the store in the 1970s, Steve saw the need to be more involved with industry organizations such as NAMM and NASMD. During his service to NAMM, the organization created an international division and opened the NAMM Foundation’s  Museum of Making Music to the public.  Always entrepreneurial, Steve created a wholesale division of the business, Flute Authority, to focus on expanding the Miyazawa brand. As a promoter of music education Steve helped establish both the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education as well as the Music Achievement Council.
