Thousands of music products manufacturers and retailers from around the world gathered today to kick off the 106th NAMM Show at the Anaheim Convention Center. Many attendees started early at the Hilton Anaheim Hotel, watching an acoustic guitar performance by Andy McKee and Don Ross. Joe Lamond, president and CEO, NAMM, then hosted the NAMM University Breakfast Session, "Breakfast of Champions," which featured interviews with Skip Maggiora, Bill Mendello, Ed Miller, Marty Albertson and Henry Juszkiewicz.

An international family of Sesame Street characters rode onboard a float sponsored by NAMM, the trade association of the international music products association, at the 119th Tournament of Roses Parade, showcasing music as the ultimate expression of celebration for all cultures.

The Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals recently recognized NAMM with three MarCom awards for demonstrating creative achievement in its marketing and communications materials. NAMM proudly accepted the awards on behalf of the international music products industry and its Members. MarCom awards were given for the following pieces:

The NAMM Foundation today announced its 2008 request for proposals initiative. The Foundation seeks to fund proposals for projects that further NAMM’s mission of creating more active music makers of all ages on behalf of its Members and expanding access to music making. The Foundation also seeks proposals for research that expands knowledge about the effects of music making across the lifespan. There are five initiatives that concentrate on reaching specific segments of potential music makers:
