NAMM, the International Music Products Association, will participate for the second time in Pasadena’s famed annual Tournament of Roses Parade. The association’s 2005 float, themed “Music Makes Us A Family,” features Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar, Cookie Monster, Bert, Ernie, Zoe, Rosita and Honker from Sesame Street who will deliver the float’s joyful “families making music” theme.

Continuing its leadership in supporting music making and education, NAMM, the International Music Products Association, recently partnered with The Creative Coalition (TCC), Americans for the Arts, and Music for All Foundation to bring music and arts education to the forefront of policy makers’ agendas.

NAMM, the International Music Products Association, recently hosted the Fifth Global Economic Summit of the Music Products Industry, August 25–28, 2004, in Carlsbad, Calif. Every three years, NAMM hosts a group of key industry leaders, media and advisers, to explore emerging markets, reinforce global relationships and share different visions of the path to long-term, sustainable industry growth.

The 2004 NAMM Summer Session closed Sunday, July 25, reporting a grand total of 23,198 registrants, a slight increase over last year’s record-breaking attendance of 23,047. NAMM, the International Music Products Association, produced the three-day music products trade show, which occupied the Nashville Convention Center and parts of the adjoining Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Education Secretary Rod Paige gave a strong boost to SupportMusic.com, the entity’s affiliates throughout the United States and community-based arts and music education advocates everywhere when he sent a two-page letter last week to America’s school superintendents (approximately 16,000 nationwide) urging them not to cut art programs. Secretary Paige’s directive also encourages states and local communities to access funding available through Department funding programs, or Title programs, to support arts education programs.

Many of the day’s attendees stopped by last night’s concert at The Hang in the Gaylord Entertainment Center, where the Spin Doctors performed and the John Lennon Songwriting Contest winner was announced: Arthur Godfrey received the award of Maxell Song of the Year 2003—and a check for $20,000.

NAMM, the International Music Products Association, today announced a new six-year deal with the City of Anaheim to continue to host “the NAMM Show,” the association’s 103-year-old trade show for the musical instrument and products industry, through 2010.
