The NAMM Foundation is proud to announce a new 2019 grantee, UCLArts & Healing’s program entitled Beat the Odds®: Social and Emotional Skill Building Delivered in a Framework of Drumming (BTO).

Since 2009 community members in Coralville, Iowa, a small suburb near the University of Iowa have partnered with the Oakdale Prison, a medium-security facility to bring music to the incarcerated and the community.
SongwritingWith:Soldiers (SW:S) recently held a concert at the War Memorial in Nashville, Tennessee. This event, featured songs written by service members and their families who have participated in retreats with the SongwritingWith:Soldiers program since its beginnings in 2012.
Guitars for Vets (G4V) and the Yamaha Corporation of America joined forces on June 27 in honor of National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Day. The day is annually observed to recognize “the effects PTSD has on the lives of those affected by it, including roughly 800,000 veterans.”

On May 8, 2019 leaders from the New York City Public Schools and representative from New York’s philanthropic and cultural sectors met at the Yamaha Artists Salon in New York, New York to discuss the progress and future goals for music and arts education in New York City schools.
Make Music Day is an annual, global music celebration that takes place alongside the summer solstice each year on June 21. Over 1,000 cities found in 120 different countries participate in vibrant celebrations that often highlight the unique music scene found in each community.
In late May, as students are daydreaming about the beginning of summer vacation. NAMM member advocates across the country are working to ensure that children have access to music and arts education. This group of advocates are executing one of the most important gatherings of the year, the annual NAMM Music Education Advocacy D.C. Fly-In.
On February 14, 2019, the Indiana State Legislature met and passed a resolution naming the day “Indiana Arts Education Day.” This groundbreaking initiative was spearheaded by former NAMM Chair and Paige’s Music President, Mark Goff, a passionate proponent of music education advocacy efforts in both the national and local arenas.
