A recent Congressional win in Brazil has set the stage to continue to advance music making in the country. At the forefront of the initiative is NAMM Foundation grantee, Anafima Associação Nacional dos Fabricantes de Instrumentos Musicais e Audio LTda (ANAFIMA), which is led by organization President, Daniel Neves.
Born in Afghanistan, Elham Fanous spent the first four years of his life living in a country that had outlawed music. Under the rule of the Taliban, Afghanistan was a musical desert – with the complete outlaw of playing or listening to any form of music.
NAMM works with partners around the world to support the development of music education initiatives. For many years, the association has also supported the development of the music education sector in China, and continued this cooperation at last month’s National Music Education Conference in Beijing.

ANAFIMA, Associação Nacional da Indústria da Música, is the Brazilian music industry association that serves over 1,200 people annually across Brazil. A first-time NAMM Foundation grantee, ANAFIMA has utilized the grant to increase Brazil’s participation in Music Teaching Week, which aims to use education as an instrument to generate a passion for music and Make Music Day.
For the past several years, The NAMM Foundation has distributed music making grants to support a select number of nonprofit public service organizations. These organizations have missions to expand access and opportunity to music education for thousands of individuals and provide innovative music education and hands-on music making programs.
With standing-room-only sessions, Music China proved Chinese MI retailers and music teachers are hungry to learn about the music business and help develop their domestic market.
NAMM's vision of a "world in which the joy of music making is a precious element of daily living for everyone" goes well beyond the U.S., including NAMM's decade-long commitment to create more music makers in China.
