NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, today announced that Morgan Ringwald will be its new director of market development.

Today, a record-breaking 1,535 music products manufacturers from around the world will fill every square inch of the Anaheim Convention Center with the latest innovations in musical instruments at the 105th NAMM Show, the industry’s largest annual event in the United States. The NAMM Show, which opened today in Anaheim and runs through the weekend, is open only to the trade and draws thousands of music products retailers and manufacturers eager to check out the products, attend valuable professional development sessions and network with industry peers.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, is launching a national music-making program with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) in an effort to teach basic music-making skills to the young people, ages 6 to 18. BGCA has nearly 4,000 Clubs worldwide. Research has shown that musical study develops critical thinking and self-discipline skills, self-esteem and the ability to work in teams. The effort will potentially reach millions of young people who participate in BGCA after-school programs each year.

The voices of the Oak Ridge Boys, a 100-person choir and a live drum circle brought the joys of making music to life on a float sponsored by NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, at the 118th Tournament of Roses Parade. The NAMM float featured the theme “Natural Harmonies: Oh Say Can You Sing,” commemorating MENC: The National Association for Music Education’s National Anthem Project, and won the Craftsman trophy for Exceptional Showmanship and Dramatic Impact for a float more than 55 feet long.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, recently sponsored an experimental new piano teaching program with some exciting results. At the conclusion of the new Recreational Music Making (RMM) piano class, nine of the 10 selected teachers indicated a desire to continue teaching RMM-type classes. NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office will be staffing a booth at this year’s NAMM Show in order to educate exhibitors and attendees about intellectual property (IP) rights and the realities of IP protection in America and abroad.

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, is offering its Members free copies of a new SupportMusic Community Action Kit, which offers step-by-step guidance, action tools and handouts about how to support music education in local communities. Free copies of the kit are also available to parents and community organizations. NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, recently reported the results of association-supported research that found young children who take music lessons show different brain development and improved memory over the course of a year compared to children who do not receive musical training. The findings are from a research study conducted at McMaster University in Canada assessing the affects of musical training on young children.

Numerous research studies continue to reveal the positive relationship between music education and success in school and life. The American Music Conference (AMC) seeks to recognize and celebrate, through a nationwide survey, communities committed to creating opportunities for music education.
